| Title: |
Contract of War |
| Artist: |
Wailing Miserere
|
| Notes: |
This song isn't about warfare at all. There was a verse which had some vague relevance to the title, but then I cut it out for reasons now obscure and couldn't come up with a better name for the song. So it stuck. Wrote this one quite some time ago, possibly in late 2004, but never got round to recording it til now.
Recorded in Edinburgh University Studio 2, January 2006.

| Lyrics: |
So, the time that's passed is treacherous. The glancing years have flown, and the days pile up, like letters unopened, opportunities missed, promises broken. Do you find it gets easier not to read? Just rewrite what went wrong. Let it all out, get it all down and you'll sing it out loud when the time comes around.
You got some vengeance, yeah you had your rage, and look where it has left you. Bleeding your heart out on every stage. Trying to be careful, got to watch what you say, because it's hard to keep quiet but it's easy to sing, to write such clever words and make them the truth. Words you'll never live up to. You'll sing them to anyone, apart from the ones they're for.
I called you my warlock, my failed magician, with your smoke and shattered mirrors. Your dazzling deception, so carefully arranged. You hide behind malice and unassumed grace. Your soul's an illusion, so pretty to look at, then just like that it's gone. Now I see through it all. You set it all up. You said it was true. You said only a fool would put faith in you... the way that I do.
